Re: Um...not to interrupt the moveable feast

umm,

At the risk of stating the obvious, has anyone thought of the
connection
with Hemingway? The "moveable feast" I believe, in addition to the
title
of his book, was coined by him when describing how living in Paris
changed
him as a young writer in the Lost Generation (A Term he hated BTW)and
how
it actually became a part of him. As best as I understand it, the
moveable feast was the experiences he gathered and how they affected
him
as a human being. Was *Paris* the moveable feast? I think so.

It makes sense that it's a Hemingway reference too since "Like a Radio"
has the title of one of his short stories in it. One we all probably
read
in freshman comp or high school--A Clean Well Lighted Place.

I don't know about any of you, (well actually I do--{Jessyka}wink (o:)
but
doesn't this make you just want to move to Paris? I wonder what it
would
take to start some sort of artistic movement similar to Gertrude
Stein's
Lost Generation today in 2002? Is it just the nostalgia of a past
lived
vicariously through the literature and artwork of others, or was this
time
truly as magnificient as it seems now looking back? Could this be
recreated now? I mean I know there have been renaissances of the
arts--ie. the glass blowing in Seattle, etc., etc., but would the
notion
of living as a vagabond selling pieces of art and writing pieces for
modern day publications truly be as desirable now? Has technology
ruined
us or helped us in this regard. I mean just air conditioning is so
much
to be taken for granted. Well, I'm drifting far off topic.

peace out lostees,
mark
