Women and romantic comedies...
i have a friend who believes that women really can't write or direct
comedies. this movie, supposedly a romantic comedy, was written, directed,
and edited by women. it's not romantic OR funny.
While this might be true in some cases, I know of a couple examples of very well done romantic comedies with women at the helm. Or if not "really good" comedies at least as good as men tend to put out. Look at "The Tao of Steve." How about Amy Heckerling? And as much as I hate her, Sandra Bullock has produced a couple good films that are funny. Tamara Jenkins made the very funny "Slums of Beverly Hills" I would have to say that if you take all the films that men make in a year and all the films that women make and compare them relatively, then men are just as much if not more likely to make a crappy film as a woman. Especially comedies.
