Re: new guy-& princess bride
kirk,
welcome! it took me awhile to get out from the lurking shadows...and maybe
i should have stayed...but this is too much fun.
indeed i do have mennonite ties. i was raised mennonite...from the
conservative mennonite conference. my father was pastor of a mennonite
church here in western maryland. i no longer attend my church due to some
serious problems i have with the current leadership and philosophy. i even
attended a few semesters at rosedale bible institute...if you've heard of
it...and my father attended for years & served on the board at e.m.u.. so
yes...i definitely have mennonite ties.
however, i was infatuated w/ otr long before i realized that linford had a
similar background...in fact...it surprised me...although i knew his name
definitely sounded mennonite. i just noticed nathan's last name
today...and wondered the same thing....and zehr definitely sounded
mennonite to me too....i assume you have ties as well?
again...welcome! so good to "see" a new face!
ysobelle mentioned princess bride...one of the BEST movies made. i own
it...but my niece borrowed it and consistently forgets to return it...i've
been experiencing major withdrawal!

scattered children of Menno? -
I couldn't participate in the virtual Taylor U reunion ( Eastern Mennonite
'93), but I noticed a Swartzendruber and a Yoder on the list, and I
thought perhaps I'd make some connections of my own. (I've long suspected
that it's rather arrogant to call this habit of networking, especially by
name, the "Mennonite game", and that was confirmed by watching the
Taylorites do it so well.) So I'm wondering, Nathan and Twila, whether you
have any Mennonite ties, and if there are any others of us on the list,
and how much of your interest in OtR has to do with Linford being a
Detweiler. ANECDOTE: My wife's mother's husband interviewed for the
pastoral position at the church that Linford's parents attend. Pretty
cool, huh?
