new guy

halloo-

I've been lurking on the list for a couple of weeks, and I think it's time
to come out into the open. You seem pretty safe . . .

Actually, I feel like I've gotten to know quite a few of you already, at
least a little bit, just from eavesdropping. I'm pleased to become part of
such a fine group of folks. This is my first experience with any kind of
online community, and I'm impressed by the quality of exchange you have
here. I hope I can contribute, although I have neither the time nor the
inclination to post frequently; I'm not good at quick little notes, and I
tend to hang back a bit.

Case in point: I haven't introduced myself. I am Kirk Shank Zehr, 32
(somehow), one wife, one daughter, Harrisonbug VA, seminary student and
sometime stone mason. OtR fan since C'stone '96 (couldn't make it this
year, very bummed, grateful for all the reports though my soul burn with
envy), but quite new to the great wide world of computers 'n' stuff.

I have several threads to jump on, which should probably be in separate
posts, but here goes.

MP3 rarities / Atlanta show -
I would love to get this stuff, but I know nahthing (what in the world is
a tree?). Can any of it be sent electronically, or does it have to go on
an actual disc through the actual mail? And as far as trading, I'm not
sure what I could offer. Shall I play for you, parrrum pum pum pum, on my
drum? I'm at your mercy.

i went into a salon to check it out (the one by the
huge downtown antique store), and inside over the
rhine was playing was over the muzak intercom.
Where are you? I was in Tocoa, Honduras, years ago, and I know it's a long
shot, but maybe they spell it differently now . . .

scattered children of Menno? -
I couldn't participate in the virtual Taylor U reunion ( Eastern Mennonite
'93), but I noticed a Swartzendruber and a Yoder on the list, and I
thought perhaps I'd make some connections of my own. (I've long suspected
that it's rather arrogant to call this habit of networking, especially by
name, the "Mennonite game", and that was confirmed by watching the
Taylorites do it so well.) So I'm wondering, Nathan and Twila, whether you
have any Mennonite ties, and if there are any others of us on the list,
and how much of your interest in OtR has to do with Linford being a
Detweiler. ANECDOTE: My wife's mother's husband interviewed for the
pastoral position at the church that Linford's parents attend. Pretty
cool, huh?

indulge me -
I ain't up to speed on some of y'all's email jargon. What does LOL mean?
I've thought way too long about this.

Sorry to go on and on (this is why I don't do this often), and for being
such a greenhorn. Gotta go - I've been mostly dead all day.

slowly -
Kirk
