Square peg
All you sweet, musical people,
Another Cornerstone fest has passed me by. I used to think I was
definitely gonna go, but I don't know.
Trouble is, my friends aren't 'zactly devout Christians. They listen
to the tunage, and have purchased several discs by C-stone alumni ranging
from OtR to Mortal due to their association with me. But...they aren't that
big into music, or Jesus, and would rather spend vacation at Otakon, the
convention of otaku generation. We've been to every one.
Are Japanese anime fans really my peeps? I used to fit in well with the
geeks and misanthropes that sparsely populated Otakon, but anime has become
so very mainstream. I, however, am decidely NOT mainstream. Chicks in
tights revealing leather and spandex outfits, guys dressed in Japanese
schoolgirl uniforms; all the freaks come out at an anime gatherng. So do
the geeks and the everyday people. Which is great, because anime is REALLY
breaking down cultural barriers, both between the US and Japan, and within
the US- the imposed "social strata".
Anyway, I think I'd be more comfortable with you guys at C-Stone.
*Sigh* I'd have to go alone though. :-( Still, it would be worth it to
have OtR dedicate an undoubtedly stunning cover of "Beds Are Burning" to me.
(tee-hee, though I'd rather hear "Redneck Wonderland".)
Regardless, I'll see ya'all in the next world. And I may eventually
run into our own Ysobelle at Otakon. Its all good.
Did someone say Linford was selling his book? I haven't recieved MY
copy yet!! What's the deal? I was # 35 to sign up even! Should I panic?
Well, I'm gonna belatedly start typing those OtR trading cards now.
They'll be up on the list soon...ish.
Sad, jealous, and (sniff) lonely,
Matt
