Of *course* it's a marketing thing... isn't everything these days?
;) I don't think it's any more nefarious than that, however.

It's just about exactly like the "We'll send you coupons for only the
products you use" kind of surveys that my mother is always sending in... it's
why she gets so many catalogs! :) She also owns a cat-shaped scanner that
she got (free) from Radio Shack that came with software she installed on her
computer: she can run this scanner over any barcoded product (that's
registered with the company, but you'd be amazed how many there are) and it
will take her to that product's web site. Of course, when she installed the
software, it required her to fill out a survey.........

Anyway: Here's their privacy bit: http://www.humanforsale.com/privacy.asp
... it's a bit of a misnomer, as it only tells you how they're not going to
keep much of it secret... but it will tell you how to (supposedly) remove
your info from their database, too.

I have a separate email that I use for this junk, and I delete it and create
a new one whenever it starts really piling up... and I never ever use my
real name...

(Which is...)
Anita
