is dystopia...crappy evangelism?

>so that movie "Brazil" would be 'dystopian'?

hi jg :) i dunno actually...i haven't yet seen it.

another (besides "handmaid's tale" and "anthem") i
really liked of this ilk was "we" by zamyatin. we
could put "brave new world" in the category...as well
as "the time machine" i think.

here, lemme find mirriam webster...

coined in circa 1950, we have "an imaginary place
where people lead dehumanized and often fearful
lives."

oh, btw, i didn't totally forget about your response
to one of my posts a while back about christian
"purposes" on the list...but i had to think about it a
little while. as far as crappy evangelism goes, the
image in my head was not list-specific. i immediately
had a picture of the crying lady with the big
color-changing hair on that tbn station. christian
television. bite your tongue, jota maria.

but then i started thinking about our particular
community in terms of calling what could be outright
evangelism "crappy" in some situations. i might roll
my eyes once in a while with all my little "opinions,"
but i need to reexamine that attitude.

i have no idea what god uses sometimes. i'm
constantly shocked by whom and what he uses to bring
people to himself (or to bring about anything for that
matter). it's amazing and humbling that he often uses
the proverbial person i'd call the most idiotic,
stupid or just downright narrow-minded to teach me
things. b/c he does pick those people. often. to
give me wisdom...and a good dose of humility.

i'm coming to a place where even though i wouldn't
calculate that kind of "witness" :)...if we' gonna git
into missiology etc. or even into my own personal
convictions about how i share love and life...but that
doesn't mean i can run around calling it "crappy" or
deeming it totally ineffective. 'cause who knows? i
come to grips a lot lately with the fact that god's
ways are _so_ above mine (and his thoughts _so_ above
mine) that i need to be open to lots of possibilities.

and am i not the one who gets sick of narrow-minded
stuff? :) good grief.

he uses many foolish people to teach me and make me
wise. and he uses me, quite foolish in my own right,
to give nuggets to those i esteem as much wiser than
i.

take care,
j. marie
