re: a bunch of savages around here

my most influential authors/books are probably:

(gotta mention the hispanics first)

ana lydia vega (anything she writes!)
rosa montero (te tratare como una reina)
rudolfo anaya (bless me ultima)
sandra cisneros (anything)

the handmaid's tale (m. atwood)
c.s. lewis (especially till we have faces)
catcher in the rye (salinger)
anthem (ayn rand)--i really like dystopian stories
the loved one (waugh)
hinds feet on high places (hurnard)
the scarlet letter (hawthorne)
all that lovely jane austen stuff
life after god (d. coupland)
anything flannery wrote!

and anything emily d. wrote!...but that gets into
poetry which is another list...she's still the queen
of it for me though :)

i'm gonna have to go with amy on this one in terms of
possibilities. another one is that a lot of
christians don't set the bible in the category of
"mere books."

as for what to expect from christians: i don't think
that this kind of "rebuke" is appropriate. it doesn't
seem right to assume you/we know the motivation(s) for
the failure or decision to include it. or who even
thought about it.

is it okay for me to think someone _would_ include it
b/c a) they're just that holy, b) they want to convert
the list, c) they're just puttin' it down b/c they see
it as an influential book (even as a non-christian),
d)they put it down as a christian mindful of it in its
"book" form or e) they want to seem "christian
enough."

i _think_ my point is that the ways we know each other
via posting and the level of relationship is pretty
dubious for a lot of us.

take care,
j. marie
