Maybe you're on to something there.  Maybe the
longtime fans are the ones who didn't mind the
characters and their "idiosyncrasies" and thus were
annoyed at the last episode; Whilst those of us who
couldn't take much of the characters weren't big fans
and thus liked the idea of them being stuck in jail
for their "idiosyncrasies".
