Hmmm, perhaps.

BTW, WRT her mother's absence, I got a kick out of the fact that the
person committing suicide was said to be from *Quebec*.  I wonder what
light, if any, that sheds on relations between France and Quebec.

Heh.  I actually wouldn't have minded if they had just *looked* at each
other, up close, for the first time, a la the last scene in _City Lights_.
