Re: structuralism

well said Fred,

true sructuralism doesn't necessarily completely throw out the author or
creator of a work, i think Foucault and even Barthes to an extent would say
that anything produced and sent into the mainstream for mass consumption
rather than personal use has become something different than a live
performance of said piece. when the creator is there, improper
communication and disagreements about the work can be discussed with the
creator - where as a recorded or written work is seperated from the creator
and must hold its own apart from defense. this system will inveribly cause
horific problems with folks who are creative types and hold that they
deserve some sort of credit for their work - when indeed they have created
no meaning at all. meaning - if holding to structuralism - is garnered at
the exact reading and interpretation of the work which will the
simultaneously become a text, kinda kool.

sorry if these ramblings bother anyone, i just read Barthe's "Death of the
Author" & Foucault's "what is an Author"

please be graceful
