Well maybe the walkers was a bit of an exaggeration. But in my unit there are lots of old-timers. It works out pretty well sometimes though. At 5 year incremental anniversaries, the employee gets a pop, coffee, juice and snack cart at their desk in celebration, so I rarely have to buy coffee or lunch.

State Farm Insurance. It is so huge here, I could possibly not show up for days (with the exception of meetings) and no one may even know. When you are on projects that are so mammoth that there is no timeline set, it is easy to get lost in the shuffle.
Actually most of those older programmers are pretty amazing. Watching them work is like TV renditions of hackers. Screens scrolling, PF keys hit with the same frequency as a downtown secretary types a form letter, and JCL changes on the fly.
