Whipped Hot Chocolate

A splash of Kahlua or brandy would turn this kid-friendly recipe into a decadent grown-up beverage. Original recipe from THE VILLAGE PUB in Woodside, California.

Ingredients

4 cups Whole Milk
1 ea Vanilla Bean Split Lengthwise
1 ea Cinnamon Stick
1 cup Whipping Cream
8 ounces Bittersweet Chocolate or Semisweet not Unsweetened Chopped
1/4 cup Sugar
pinch Salt
to taste Sweetened Whipped Cream or Marshmall


 

Instructions
1. Bring milk almost to simmer in medium saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat. Scrape in seeds from vanilla bean; add bean and cinnamon stick. Cover and let steep 30 minutes. Remove vanilla bean and cinnamon stick.

2. Bring cream to simmer in large saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat. Add chocolate, sugar, and salt; whisk until chocolate melts.

3. Gradually add milk mixture to chocolate mixture, whisking over medium heat until hot and frothy, about 5 minutes.

4. Pour hot chocolate into mugs; top with sweetened whipped cream of marshmallows. Serve.
