We had a fun evening out with our friends Bob & Sharon tonight. When we ran into Paul Sturkey at the Iron Horse Inn‘s most recent wine dinner, he invited us out to his restaurant, Sturkey’s, for a tasting menu. We took the restaurant up…

DINNER 190: Sunday, July 9, 2006

Tonight we decided to stay home and attempt to eat sensibly. Well, sort of. One of my recipes is being published in a local newspaper (more on that later) and the photographer is coming tomorrow evening so I was preparing the recipe this evening. We ate…

DINNER 191: Monday, July 10, 2006

Tonight, we went to dinner with our friend Paul to commemorate a significant event in his life. We dined at TAJ MAHAL, somewhere we haven’t been in months, and it was really good. I had the Chicken Taj Special, which is chunks of chicken, cheese, and hard-boiled egg in a spicy red sauce. Delicious.

DINNER 192: Tuesday, July 11, 2006

This evening was spent at Great American Ball Park in downtown Cincinnati. I was there because some of my students asked if I wanted to participate in fundraising for student groups in my college, which of course I did. They make money by staffing concession…

DINNER 194: Thursday, July 13, 2006

DINNER 194: Thursday, July 13, 2006

I had a flurry of activity before me this evening when I got home from work. I had to do laundry, take care of the animals, be interviewed over the telephone for an article (to be published next week), cook my dinner (nothing special — just a Stouffer’s French Bread Pizza), get changed and get ready for our second Salsa class.

Tonight our salsa instructor reviewed everything we learned in the first class and taught us a few more steps. The class was really fun this evening. One of the things we do in class is switch partners because a different partner can help point out where you’re sloppy. Talking with my partner, I asked what she did for a living and when she told me she is a veterinarian, I told her that Wendy is too. She countered with the fact that her friend, also in our class (though absent tonight) is also a veterinarian. That means that three of the four women in the class are vets!

Small world.

We stood outside and Dr. Wendy & Dr. Baker talked for a long time about their various businesses. I’ve observed that vets tend to work in a world that is somewhat isolated, especially from other vets. They seem to generally enjoy talking with other vets when given the opportunity, so we stood in the parking lot of the community center and chatted (and got eaten by bugs).

On the way home, Wendy & I stopped at the Creamy Whip in Green Hills for some ice cream. Once we got home, we got caught up on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE before hitting the sack.

Life on the Road

Life on the Road

I asked my friend Karin, lead singer for the band Over the Rhine, how their recent tour was. I specifically said, “How is the road?”, and she replied as follows…  the road is:long, bumpy, sometimes smooth and straight, but every now and then a slow curve is welcome.…
