On Healing…

> Looking forward to hearing about the dinner with your ex-wife!
>

The dinner was interesting. When Holly called and asked if we could get together, I told her no, that I didn’t think it was necessary. She talked me into it, and I must admit, I’m glad she did. I think that one thing that made it easier for me to agree to dinner was something that Holly did that showed me that she was beginning her process of healing. In the middle of our conversation, right in the middle in fact — it came from out of the blue, Holly apologized to me. She said, “Andy, I’m sorry.” I said, “What?” and she repeated it. “What for?,” I asked. And she replied, “I didn’t handle it very well with you,” and I knew that she was aplogizing for many things in those words, everything from the marriage to the breakup to the divorce, and more. I accepted her apology, and then told her that I’d forgiven her a long time ago and that I didn’t need to hear those words from her, but understood and supported her need to say them to me. I didn’t say it in a bitter way, but just as someone who’d moved on, sorta like if an adult came to you and apologized to you for breaking your favorite toy when you were 5 years old — it’s nice, but it just doesn’t affect you anymore.

> Ok… being that I am away at college and NOT where I’d love to be (in my

Hey Elissa… Let’s see… The Monk concert. Yes… Shelly, myself, Allison (lurker on the list, I think ;-) Hi Allison!), and one of Allison’s friends met for dinner at Daniel’s Pub. Loverly time had by all. Just about 8:00, I was fixing to stroll up to Sudsy’s when in walks Dug of Snoop Duggy Dug fame. Chatted with him for a moment, off I went while they all sat a shot the sh*t. I wandered up to Sudsy’s where I met Ric and chatted with him for a few minutes (I’d offered to work the door for him). Got settled in. Drank some beer, chatted with Kerry (the sound guy, and a neighbor) when he arrived. Sooner or later, everyone started arriving. Mike Helm opened and did a great job, just him and his guitar (and a wonderful song called “This is my Pop Song” (which, sadly, does not appear on the CD I bought)). After a proper interval, Monk takes the stage and blows us all away.

Our Animals…

This page is dedicated to my love of animals, mainly dogs, and specifically Jack Russell Terriers.

I’ve been blessed with two and a half amazing Jack Russell Terriers, Stanley and my rescue dog, Belle. The “half” amazing Jack Russell Terrier is Dolly, who is half Jack Russell and half Beagle.

During my time with these incredible animals, I have done bell training with them to teach them how to tell me that they wanted to go outside. I think you might find it useful, too. Let me know if you have any questions or comments on this process.

Stanley The Wonder Dog

Stanley was a Jack Russell Terrier (JRT). He weighed approximately 14 pounds, had a broken white coat with black & fawn markings, and a black mask.

Stanley came into my life in May of 1992, at the age of 6 months. The Jack Russell Terrier breed is a breed developed for hunting, so Stanley was very interested in the birds and animals that frequented my backyard, and he loved to burrow under blankets, pillows, and the cushions on the couch. Stanley was trained to ring a bell to alert me that he needed to go outside. Its a good thing — he had not had an accident in the house in a couple of years!

Here’s a story about Stanley that I wrote when someone asked me to put Stanley on an Honor Roll.

More than just being a good dog, Stanley was a great friend. For the duration of our time together, he was my best friend.

This story has a sad ending, I’m afraid. Stanley the Wonder Dog went to the Rainbow Bridge on Sunday, November 21 1999 at 4:30am. He would have been 8 years old on December 15, 1999.

To Those I Love
If I should ever leave you whom I love to go along the Silent Way,
Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears,
But laugh and talk of me as if I were beside you there.
(I’d come — I’d come, could I but find a way!
But would not tears and grief be barriers?)
And when you hear a song or see a bird I loved,
Please do not let the thought of me be sad…
For I am loving you just as I always have…
You were so good to me!
There are so many things I wanted still to do –
So many things to say to you…
Remember that I did not fear…
It was just leaving you that was so hard to face…
We cannot see Beyond…
But this I know:
I loved you so — ’twas heaven here with you.

Stanley the Wonder Dog

“I had a linguistics professor who said that it’s man’s ability to use language that makes him the dominant species on the planet. That may be. But I think there’s one other thing that separates us from animals: We aren’t afraid of vaccuum cleaners.” — Jeff Stilson

“Dogs feel very strongly that they should always go with you in the car, in case the need should arise for them to bark violently at nothing right in your ear.” — Dave Barry

“I wonder what goes through his mind when he sees us peeing in his water bowl.” — Penny Ward Moser

“Did you ever walk in a room and forget why you walked in? I think that’s how dogs spend their lives.” — Sue Murphy

“Chihuahua. There’s a waste of dog food. Looks like a dog that is still far away.” — Billiam Coronell

Belle

THE AMAZING BELLE

Shortly after the untimely death of Stanley The Wonder Dog on November 21, 1999, I made the decision to get another dog. It was a call from the National Director of Rescues of the Jack Russell Terrier Rescue that convinced me to consider getting a ‘rescue dog’. That search led me to Belle, a 3 year old Jack Russell Terrier.
