System Information

You are currently browsing the archive for the System Information category.

The system was down much of today for a MAJOR upgrade. I’ve transferred the server to a bigger, faster box and installed Linux Mandrake 8.1 PowerPack and more than doubled the system’s storage.

It didn’t go without hitches, but it’s back up and running!

As always, please let me know if you spot any weirdness.

Some major changes have taken place behind the scenes here at DrewVogel.COM. We’ve migrated the system from PHP-Nuke to PostNuke. There might be some small problems here and there, but for the most part, the system is running really well. If you spot anything strange, please let me know!

Why did we switch from PHP-Nuke to PostNuke? There were several reasons why we switched from PHP-Nuke to PostNuke. The main reasons were that PostNuke is OpenSource, which means that there are more people working on it with a more regular release schedule. Also, PostNuke has nice features (some of them fairly minor, like the "Quote of the Moment" to the left) that aren’t in PHP-Nuke. Both PHP-Nuke and PostNuke are exceptional products.

The choice between them is up to the specific user, and in our case, PostNuke seems like the best choice.

PHP-Nuke 5.20 has been installed on this system.

It has several new features, including advanced Block support, the ability to include images within articles, 100% true multilanguage support, possibility to toggle comments on selected articles, and much more…

This is the last release of PHP-Nuke before some major changes will occur in the code. We will follow these changes and evaluate them for inclusion into this site. Stay tuned!

Sometime last night (24-July-2001), the DNS servers were updated with my new connection information.
That means that this site is now being served off my own computer.

What does that mean to you? Well, first and foremost, it means that the ‘old’ DrewVogel.COM has not yet merged with this ‘new’ DrewVogel.COM. I’ll be migrating things over as soon as possible, so stay tuned.

It also means that there are likely some things that currently do not work — message boards, etc. Hang in there, and we’ll get it going soon.

If you want the ‘old’ DrewVogel.COM, link to this page.

Well, now it’s just waiting…

I’ve put in change orders on my DNS to point from my old host to my home-host, but it takes some times, sometimes a couple, two-three days, for the DNS to propogate.

I will keep you posted as to when that change has happened.

There should be little to no downtime for DrewVogel.COM; however, some quirks will likely need to be worked out before the system is running smoothly.

Thanks for bearing with me.

I am working to transfer the domain name DREWVOGEL.COM to my home computer using TZO.COM.

This will increase the speed of the system quite a bit, and allow me to learn more about the inner workings as well.

Please bear with me during this move — some things may not work as expected! If you see anything weird, please let me know.
