Shel Silverstein

I know that everyone was talking about this last week when he died, but the
latest US News & World Report had a cool poem in it about him, written by
his friend Jack Prelutsky.

Your flame has been extinguished,
We are sadder, troubadour.
You lit the attic light for us,
And taught us hug o' war.
You wrote with wit and humor,
How we love your wondrous words,
Your hula eels, your ghastly meals,
And weeping Gooloo Birds.

You filled your books with silly rhymes,
And magic happenstance,
With Polar Bears in Frigidaires,
And pairs of dancing pants.
Alas, your voice is silenced now,
And we must say farewell.
You've gone to where the sidewalk ends-
Sleep gently, moon-bird Shel.
                    - Jack Prelutsky

A slipping gear could let your M203 grenade launcher fire when you least
expect it. That would make you quite unpopular in what's left of your
unit. --
