I'm going to assume you were exaggerating just a tad here. As a musician
yourself, *surely* you don't think that Brian is the greatest drummer
alive. He is an excellent musician, especially as drummers go. He knows
when to sit back and not complicate a simple song. And he knows when he
can let loose on more upbeat songs (e.g., "Goodbye"). He always fits the
drum part into the song well. However, I don't think he's the most
technically proficient drummer around. I'm not going to start spouting a
list of great drummers, but there are at least 10 that I can think of
off the top of my head.

I'm more upset about Brian's departure from a personnel standpoint. How
long can OTR remain OTR with its members coming and going so frequently?
I have zero doubt that they can find someone competent enough to replace
him. But anyone new will only be playing along to songs that have
already matured. Brian and the rest of the band nurtured this music to
be where it is now. A new drummer can certanly bring something new to
the music, but nobody knows this music like Brian does.

gotta go do some actual work,
dave
