Re: what Over the Rhine means to me!

hello mark and the list.

you mark just discribed how i feel about the band but in better words, i often wondered why i liked them so much, and i would also think, that karins voice is so beatiful (how could you not like it) the music is just so beatiful too and the words are just amazing,
i connected with all there songs,

in some songs it feels like i have been abducted by alliens who have stolen my thoughts, then they have passed them on to karin and linford, hehehee (that may sound a bit extreme, but how else do i explaine why karin and linford sing songs that tell me thoughts?)

i hope what i wrote the other day didnt sound too deppressing, i was depressed not so much now. im going to see david bowie perform here in aus not this friday but next friday, playing his album over and over so i can learn the songs, so im having no time for otr (really sad face then)

i have to say though everytime i got a new otr cd, i would play just a few times and feel like ive none the songs my whole life, david bowie is taking a lot longer, i just want to give up and play otr, but i want to enjoy myself at concert by knowing the songs.

well i might just finish of here, but thanx mark for your imput, im great full

from em

This is timely, for me, as I was just pondering over Over the Rhine today, and
I came to my e-mail tonight to find this subject line in my inbox (again).

I have somewhat varied tastes and sometimes nothing appeals to me musically.
Today I was pretending to be interviewing Linford in my head. I asked him a
silly question. I said "Linford, if you weren't 'behind the music' of OtR and
just came upon it blindly, would it be a band you enjoyed listening to, even
considered one of your favorite bands?" I never imagined his answer, because
even in my head, I recognized how stupid the question was and quickly got
embarrassed for myself.

But the point here is that it made me think about OtR and how the music
sa! tisfies me on so many levels. Karin's voice is, well, indescribably
beautiful, and this immensely pleases me in the vocal area. The lyrics hit me
where I live. I mean, I'm no genius, but when I hear phrases like "Green
Clouded Swallowtail" and "sympathetic vibration" I instantly feel smarter just
for liking the way they sound--throw in something like "Clouds rolled in front
of your face, your tears became the rain I heard wonderful thunder as you
murmured my name" and I'm in pure ecstasy. Have I ever mentioned that Sea and
Sky is one of my favourites? And while I'm mentioning it, the musical
diversity of styles always keeps things interesting, so although I have lots of
favourite bands, I can't think of any that satisfy on so many levels, or any
that qualify as my most favourite like over the rhine does.

I know the question of what the band means to you was only rhetorically posed,
but since I was just thinking about it today, I thought I wou! ld respond to the
question in my own personal way.

Mark
