how do they make such wonderful music?

no seriously, how do they do it. first time poster, long time fan, etc,
etc. changed my life, best band ever and so on . . .

i'm prompted to finally jump in the waters here because i need to find the
answer to the question in the subject line. for any techies out there, how
does the band record their music and how have they in the past. i know it's
a hodgepodge. twhf was done in basements and churches on borrowed equipment
(but what equipment?) gdbd was supposedly made in the grey ghost as was
some of the tracking for ffr. just what do they use in that mystical,
musical haven to get such warm, beautiful recordings? what effects do they
use on karin's voice (and mics)? what do they track with? anyone who might
have had a peek at their studio or a chance to ask them such questions is
welcome to chime in.

why? i'm in a band with a female vocalist and she's wanting to go into the
studio this fall. her last effort was done in a pro studio and sounds
terrible compared to the rich, lush, spacious stuff that seems to be the
hallmark of karin and linford. i'm just looking for some ideas to get the
most out of her recording budget this time around.

gracias to all.
