Must See TV

There's not much good TV out there, broadcasting, of course, being the
devil's business (behold the media beast). News, sports, and weather
seem to simply depend on who gets the broadcast rights, exclusive
interview, or happens to get there first.

My favourite programme is _Clearly From My Heart_, a local cable access
show, where an almost naked guy uses a lot of profanity as he preaches
against cooking, smoking, computers, guns, materialism, toilet paper,
automobiles, greed, alcohol, Mother Theresa, human reproduction, war,
drugs, showering, television, Rev. Billy Graham, animal-based food, and
sugar, and extols the virtues of nudism, homosexuality, and the
consumption of raw pumpkin seeds, and one's own urine, and living on
less than $6000 per year, in an effort to avoid paying taxes to the
United States, which, he calls the world's worst terrorist gang.

Here are some interesting programmes that you might receive, where you
live.

_American Shooter_- Jim Scoutten hosts a magazine that, makes the,
sometimes off-putting, and seemingly inaccessible world of the shooting
sports into something (OLN, formerly TNN)

_Motorweek_- For two decades, Maryland Public TV makes the (PBS, Speed,
formerly syndicated)

_On The Edge Of Country_- After the demise of CMT's _Jammin' Country_,
this half hour is the only beacon I've found in the evil fogbank that
hangs over Nashville. A lot of the singles would have gotten radio play
fifteen years ago, but, the definition of mainstream has changed, and
not for the better. (GAC)

_Imus In The Morning_- A live simulcast of the first three hours of
WFAN- AM 660's syndicated Infinity Radio program, where a painfully
cranky old DJ forces respected figures in politics, journalism, and
entertainment to endure his curmudgeonly, and embarrassingly personal
politically incorrect questioning.
The best shows are the live remotes from the host's vegetarian cattle
ranch, in Reader's Digest, New Mexico, population 7. (MSNBC)

_Democracy Now!_ Similar to _Imus In The Morning_, except. the televised
version of this syndicated Pacifica Radio show seems to be tape delayed
by one day, with Friday's show appearing on Monday. Host Amy Goodman
runs a leftist alternative to a mainstream news media, which is held in
far fewer hands than in years past. (FSTV)

_His Place_ This is as weird as it gets, a locally produced Pittsburgh
religious talk show, often hurting for guests, mixed with a strange
little soap opera. Set in a Pittsburgh diner, typical talk show guests
are "interviewed" by having conversations in booths with characters in
the soap opera, or even other guests. Whenever an interview seems to be
running out of steam, the audio is mixed to a conversation among the
diner's regulars, as the camera moves.(CTV, FamilyNet)

_Motorsport Mundial_ A weekly rapid fire look at all kinds of vehicular
racing that Americans don't like. (Speed)

_Miami Vice_ (reruns 1984 -1989) Although far from perfect, this series
brought the intensity of film to series television. Shot on location,
far from Hollywood, several major early roles went to actors from the
New York stage, musicians, and, even auto executive Lee Iacoca. Maurice
Hurley, creator of Star Trek's Borg, was the ramrod of scriptwriting in
the early years, and his departure, unfortunately, is evident in the
latter years, although, the soundtrack always stayed much more
progressive than the radio. Conspiracy theories abound, culminating in
the series finalé, which seemed to scream that the Bush administration
was compromised in the drug war, by the potential blackmail from
slippery allies like Panama's Manuel Noriega. (TNN)
