Yeah... they'd have to, otherwise the whole "human-as-battery" thing 
wouldn't work. I imagine that all those wires and tubes connected to 
thier arms, legs, spines had something to do with that. But as far as 
kung-fu fighting goes, remember that Neo (and everyone else) was doing 
all that fighting in the matrix, not in real life.
