i am wicked crazy about the innocence mission! whoever it was that said
"glow" is their favourite, i am right there with you. this band can do no
wrong in my eyes...the only reason i wouldn't consider any of their records
"perfect" (although "glow" and "birds" come really close) is because all of
them have at least one song i skip.
i've made the train trip from newark, nj to normal, il a few times now, and
every time i cannot help but think that the innocence mission make the
perfect soundtrack. maybe it's because i see a great deal of
pennsylvania...i don't know. either way, all of the various neighbourhoods,
old churches sticking up in working class towns like prim old ladies, hills
full of coloured trees, the way the bridges in pittsburgh are placed...from
the train, pittsburgh actually looks beautiful (hah). that, and the way the
trees look at night if the trip is in winter...they shine white against an
empty black sky, almost as if the world was film, with night being the
negatives slowly developing into daylight.
anyway, what i meant by that diatribe was that i listen to innocence mission
records all through the train ride. and it works.
and wonder of birds makes me feel like i can fly.
if over the rhine covered it, karin could say "i'm flying, jack!"
