Wow!

Four days 'til Over the Rhine is here!

I'm finding it hard to contain myself after reading
the play-list/responses of the Portland venue.

2 personal comments - Dude, be grateful you got to
hear them play "And Can It Be" live! That song used
to be my all time favorite - before the band made
"Patience" (then I switched my favorite tune to
"Painted My Name" - which still is a fav of mine!)
And second - YOU NEVER HEARD "BIRDS" UNTIL THAT
NIGHT?!?!?!? I nearly fell out of my chair, amazed!
I still can only say WOW!

The mix-up of tunes played is good to hear, that the
main stay of the new album will remain while a
careless hand finds another lost photograph in the oak
chest that sat alone in the living room of my mind.

Man, am I still new to this - the feeling of waiting -
knowing that I'm not going to be disappointed.

I can do it! It's only four more days!

I also just read an article in the Phoenix New Times
(page 113) of Scott Wilson's recent interview w/ OtR -
Ugh!!! Another mental paper cut of pain!!! I can do
 it!

Just four more days!

Later Gators

Spring: A moment of action, a season to bloom -
impulsive heart speaks from it's dormant sleep,
heeding not to what others whisper.

It's getting harder and harder to keep hearing all
these awesome concert experiences and not see your own
experience on the horizon. BTW, are there any other
Rhinelanders out there in the south? We need our
voices to be heard! Ok, I'm done ranting and ready to
continue living through everyone else's experiences.

I live in Myrtle Beach, SC which is about 8 1/2 hrs
from the Alexandria show so I'm seriously considering
that date. My only day off is Sunday's so that
doesn't make it any easier. OTR came through Myrtle
Beach a couple of years ago with the CJ to our local
House of Blues but that wasn't a true OTR experience.
My last true OTR experience was in '94 at Cornerstone.
I did get an email from the band saying they were
planning on hitting more of the east coast on the 2nd
leg of the tour but they didn't want to post dates
until most if not all were confirmed. Keeping my
fingers crossed,

Max

Man, he did that at the East End show he did with Peter Mulvey in
Delaware a while back, and all the women in the audience melted. It made
the most amazing sound, too. For those who haven't seen him, he's quite a
looker in a cute, self-effacing kinda way.

His CD is "The Failure of the Doping Summit," and it's very...out there.
It's currently packed away awaiting this weekend's move (wish me luck,
all) or I'd break it out and give it another listen. It's fun, and you
might like it. And hey, it's never a bad thing to support Goodie.

At the DE show, a guy in my group went up to him afterwards and said,
"Man, I haven't heard playing like that since I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan a
few years back." He really is that good.
If you go to Napster and look up Peter Mulvey's version of "I Am
Stretched On Your Grave," you'll hear Goodie. It's the whole "Clanging
Chimes of Doom" thing I mentioned the other day. Aurally Orgasmic.

But the thing is, the snake doesn't really have anything to do with the
Eden product line. It merely holds the copyrights, and that's just
because the Possum (and by the Possum, I think we all know who I mean,
right?) refuses to abide by the bylaws and the two-headed gecko's mother
in law has a lot to say about how the planets are properly in their
trajectories.

Someone back me up here. After all, those tribal tattoos that are all too
stylish make you look very little more than some odd action figure that
the hasbro corporation put out after they ran out of ways to sell G.I. Joe
to all the little Hulkamaniacs out there when they grew up and out of
their little split-level hovels with the space heater and lycra and
no _damn_ air-conditioning.

But Henrietta Pussycat is no longer living in the land of make-believe,
boys and girls. Max and Goat-Boy and the Wild Things ran in an began to
use the Trolley tracks for their own purposes, and Threw Out the
Jams. That's what the letting the Wild Rumpus Begin really is all about.

Need I go farther?

Hello! It's Jessica,

I was reading my club email on Natalie Merchant and I've been feeling sorry
for these people. They've been starving for new material by Nat for some
time now without results. So, I had an idea. I posted to them info about
OTR. I told them how much I enjoy their music and thought they would too.
I gave them the OTR website so maybe they might take a listen and enjoy the
MP3's. Maybe it will leave them starving for more. I have to admit, I
thought I was doomed after Natalie seperated from 10k. I don't feel the
same connection to the music she has done without them. Then, I was
introduced to OTR. I must say, in my eyes they've surpassed my love for
10k. (I saw the light and it was good.) Since my post I've gotten many
responses back from 'yeah, I've seen flyers around town, but never looked
them up' to 'Their cd's on listen at Barnes and Noble, but I haven't yet
checked them out. Now I will.' You see, just a little word of mouth can
atleast make a small amount of di!
fference. I enjoy tuning people into OTR and hope they enjoy them as much
as I and all of you do. I have to admit though, a little selfish voice
inside of me likes the intimate gatherings of an OTR concert better than a
large venu. Is FFR and Virgin Records the beginning of a landslide? Or,
will we always have the oriental throw rugs and candles? Either way I'll be
pleased.

Until next time...Jessica

Subject: Another one of my quirky ideas....

For those of us who've been around a while, you might remember the '96
Emery show, where we all got together and got white roses from Shelley
(with or without the second 'e', dammit????) to throw onstage. At the
gathering before the show, we all had nametags with our eddresses on
them. For at least two brief, shining moments (for me, I mean), we were
all recognisable to one another. We didn't need kilts (even though it's
not a BAD thing to have to glimpse bink's knees) or corsets or birdcalls.
We were VISIBLE, dammit! (Sob!)

So now that there are rampant opportunities for us all to meet and mingle
again-- also known as "concerts"-- what if we made ourselves big,
flashing neon signs that we could wear over our heads that said
"Rhinelander! Lostee! Come say hi!!!"? I mean, they'd be a bit heavy, and
if there were more than, say, three of them in any given crowd, it'd be a
bitch to see the bad over the glare, but still, we wouldn't have to worry
about who might have been that the show that we would have loved to have
met had we only known they were there. I mean, with a big, flashing neon
sign over your head, no one's gonna miss you, right?

Conversely, of course, we could go with soemthing more subtle, like a
rose pin or a "Lostee!" button or a little scampering rat.

If you like that sorta thaang.

You're about an hour from my sister. Tell her Hi.
I miss her.

Oh yeah, my brother lives there too.

Like the scampering rat button idea, Ysobelle. Or...there's always the
idea of gathering shortly after the concert at the merchandise table.

Max,

Don't feel too left out by them not touring in your area. They used to
claim that they neglected the West Coast the most when they toured, but
lately they've been making up for that. I got spoiled when I lived in
Nashville because practically every musician I cared about came through
there quite often.

The West Coast (and the Northwest in particular) used to be skipped by most
bands due to the distance (though I never could understand why the 77's
hadn't been to Seattle ever until like '93 or '94...Sacramento isn't that
far). Elvis Costello once said that one of the main things that caused the
creation of the grunge scene was because no one toured through the
area...the thought there being that if the music doesn't come to them, they
make their own, without any outside influences.

Anyway, I expect that on their next leg, OTR will make it through that way.
But if for some reason they don't, do everything you can to make it to the
closest show. The show this time around was one of the best I've seen, so
you don't want to miss it.
