Here's where a much needed distinction needs to be
made.  As far as the strict, musical term "soul music"
goes...yeah, that was a style that came about in the
50's or 60's and was dominated by black vocalists.
As far as soul in the real sense, how can you say it
is a black thing?  The soul is a fundamental part of
our human nature.  Since the beginning of time men
have been making music that came from their souls and
touched others souls.  That ain't black, that's human.
