Ooo! OOOOOOO!
Buy it. It's yummy!
They were-- since they are no more (in that configuration, at least)-- a
very lyrical, melodic, emotionally rich and layered band. Mary Fahl's
voice was unlike anything I'd ever heard before: smoky and rich and pure
all at the same time. They're poppish and rockish and even slightly
operatic sometimes. They're a very visual band: lots of stories in the
lyrics.
The songs aren't simple. They don't quite seem to go where you think they
would, or should. But they work beautifully. And you sort of have to
follow along. They've been compared to Renaissance, but since that's not
a band I'm overly familiar with, I can't speak to that comparison.
They're not like OtR-- they're not so stripped down. But they are just as
compelling.
I wish I knew what else to tell you, but unfortunately, it's sort of like
asking a Rhinelander what kind of band OtR is. The best thing you can say
is, "Listen. Then you tell me."
Ysoie, who's had the November Project disc in for two days now. (Same
songwriters, almost entirely different lineup, still glorious.)
