I don't usually take part in these conversations, but I felt bad for
Jennifer.
Jennifer,don't worry about being a hypocrite. I think that your beliefs stem
from being not only a Christian but also a Catholic. Catholic teaching
doesn't call for evanglizing. I was raised Catholic and was never told of the
need to transform people or bring them to my side. It could have just been my
church, but I've never understood the need to break things apart into
"christian" and "non-christian." These ideas are difficult to judge -- and,
in a way, what difference does it make in the end? If you don't like it
because it's not "christian", if you think someone is trying to make you
purchase something by playing on your beliefs, then don't buy it. But don't
criticize the art behind the marketing.
As Jennifer points out, it comes from deep down in her soul. JG said of
course the band is trying to market their product. That's right. I don't
care what marketing scheme OTR is using, English Lits, Christians, Northern
Americans, whatever -- their music still has to come from deep down in their
soul. Do you think that Karin's voice is superficial and designed only to
make money? Then obviously you've never heard her sing.
phooey on all of this, and if I can borrow from ysoie, <snarf>
now, turning to something that I found amusing -- did someone say that Tori
Amos was a Christian artist? I know I must have misunderstood that one.
