DINNER 70: Saturday, March 11, 2006

This evening, we went to dinner with our friends Brian & Milan to a restaurant about which they’ve been raving since we met them… Sukhothai Thai Cuisine on the north side of Cincinnati.

The restaurant is tucked back off the main road and is difficult to find if you don’t know exactly where you’re going. (Just for fun, here are the exact directions that Brian gave us (we found it anyway): “Sukho Thai is located in the same shopping center as Pacific Moon and Go Bananas, if that’s any help, on the south/east side of Montgomery Road just north/east of Camargo Cadillac (The Pancake House is in the shopping center across the street). This is a few blocks north/east of old Montgomery. There is a light at this intersection, which is kind of a three way light if you don’t count the fourth side which is a huge parking lot. This shopping center is tucked back along a rather long street, and none of it is really visible from Montgomery Road. The street parallels the back lot of Camargo Cadillac. You go down this little street a bit, and turn left at the first opportunity – the restaurant is right smack dab there next to a wig shop in the “front” of the center/village.“)

The interior of the restaurant is minimalist — mostly white, very plain, with accents of color on the walls. It feels very intimate and comfortable. We settled into our seats and began.

We had a wonderful meal of Thai cuisine — appetizers from edamame and their chicken & mushroom soup (rich with coconut milk) to spring rolls (both regular and vegetarian) and seaweed salad. The entrees were great… I ordered Shrimp Paad Thai (my measure when sampling a new restaurant) and it was delicious, a perfect blend of flavors without being too spicy.

We decided to venture into Montgomery for dessert. We first attempted Germano’s (where we had February 2006’s Happy Mouth — see the article) but decided not to wait the 30 minutes for dessert. We crossed the street to Starbuck’s for coffees, pastries, and conversation.

It was a good time.
